The Department of General Services employs Security Officers, who are assigned to the Civic Center and outlying facilities, safeguarding employees and City property. Security Officers monitor complex video surveillance equipment, check in visitors to City facilities, operate personal identification systems, screen visitors to City Hall for weapons, conduct foot and vehicle patrols, issues parking citations, and operates communications equipment. To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

• One year of full-time paid security officer or related (see bulletin for details) experience OR
• One year of full-time paid experience in public contact, providing information, screening visitors, or enforcing rules, or investigations OR
• Completion of 30 semester units or 45 quarter college units

The selection process includes:

• Multiple Choice Written Test
• Evaluation of Overall Qualifications
• Background Investigation
• Medical Examination
• May be required to undergo a Drug and Alcohol screening test
