Publishing services are ordered on a Stores Multi-Use Form (SMUF), form GS/MM 1. This form provides the authority necessary to charge your department for our services. It is also the number we use to track your job throughout the manufacturing process so please keep a copy of your order. Jobs sent directly to Central Duplicating are sent either electronically or with a form GS 45 that outlines your copying requests.

We strongly encourage our customers to contact us before starting your publishing projects to plan your job. We do not charge for this service and we are confident that a little time spent planning your job will increase your overall satisfaction with the project.

Publishing requests typically fall into three categories -

.Forms and other "routine" jobs that are produced with minor or no changes
.New work that may be submitted as concepts or camera-ready art (or disk)
.Copy work sent to Central Duplicating either as hard copy or electronically

All jobs sent to Publishing Services are initially assigned a production sequence that ensures the most effective manufacturing process. Previously printed jobs that do not require revisions are retrieved and put into production immediately. All jobs requiring changes and new jobs are sent to graphic services.

Publishing Services has a staff of graphics professionals ready to help you get your job ready for publication. We are fully equipped and staffed to turn your idea into a finished printed piece, take your camera ready art and prepare it for publication, create your electronic forms, or provide you with PDF files for web publication. We encourage our customers to get as involved in their jobs as they feel comfortable. A word of caution though, please read submitting electronic file guidelines thoroughly. If you have any questions, call or email Richard Malvino, Pre-press Supervisor. Richard can be reached at (213) 473-8418 or

Publishing requests that require graphic services take a little longer than repeat work so please allow extra time depending on the sophistication of your design and how much of the work we are doing. You will receive a proof of your finished work that needs to be approved before we begin production. Text only and line art proofs usually are simply a blueline. Multi-color work requires a color proof that will allow you to review and approve text and illustrations. Our delivery schedules begin after you have approved the proof. Work is often delayed because it sits on someones desk waiting to be approved. Please help us to help you by reading your work thoroughly and approving it in a timely fashion.
